Nearly finished our first year at medical school and they decide to let us learn how to listen to pulses.
That’s not me (because I am a girl…) that’s my friend Nick and I do not have his permission to put him on my blog but he doesn’t know I have one so it doesn’t matter :)
That’s also not my leg, that’s another boy. Just for the record.
This afternoon, during a particularly dull part of our ‘Pain’ lecture, I was talking to Susie about going to write up notes in the chaplaincy after lectures and she said, “I think you should go home first - have you not been since this morning?”
And then she wouldn’t tell me why I had to go back to halls, I forgot about it and went to write up notes after the lecture.
Then I arrived home this evening to fresh coffee and flowers; what a great day :)
I went to Ireland
for the first time this weekend. It is absolutely beautiful.
We arrived late on Friday, ate some cookies and went to sleep. I was woken up on Saturday at 7.30 by sunshine streaming through the window, so couldn’t complain really. We went out and had lunch on their boat, went for a swim in the FREEZING water, went to this place called Dundrum (I think) and sat in a field of long grass just kind of taking in how lovely it is. It was so so so so so sunny and everything was sparkly - really sparkly!
Hannah is asleep.
I have never met anyone who loves to nap more than that girl.
I’ve had quite a busy weekend - two of my home friends have come up to visit Bristol. On Friday night I cooked macaroni cheese for some of my friends (have a gross burn on my hand from the pan) and we went to No. 1 Harbourside which is this bar by the harbour, funnily enough. We didn’t know until we got there that this old country band were playing that night. They were great, it was really fun. Yesterday, we walked around a lot, Catrin got her nose pierced and we went to Wagamamas. Today we walked around a lot, drank a lot of coffee and went to Wagamamas again. Might make it to Wags again tomorrow seeing as it’s Hannah’s last day here. Trying to think of some productive, interesting things to do with her tomorrow seeing as today’s been a lazy write-off day.
Second Wagamamas in two days. This is what happens when Hannah comes to visit.
Had one (very confusing) heart failure lecture this morning then just as I was about to make peanut butter on toast for lunch my dad rang to say he was driving through Bristol and would I like to go out for lunch. Kate came with me and we ate absolutely loads. I had this steak thing where they bring you a hot plate and you cook your steak as you want it, very exciting!
We’re supposed to be going for dinner in Stoke Bishop tonight but I’m so insanely full of food, might just have coffee instead and then AVENGERS TIME :D I’ve been avoiding Jacob’s blog in case he wrote something about the film before I saw it. Not even gonna say I hope it’s good, I know it’s going to be good.
Back to lectures
We started cardiovascular systems today and it’s SO GOOD. I swear they just make us do two terms of mind-numbingly boring stuff so that we properly appreciate how amazing it is when our lectures feature the word patient. Our lecturer is so fun as well, he gave cards out to random people and made them act out this scene to do with the first ever ECG. He split the auditorium into three and made each group shout “lubb…systole…dubb” in time with how it would happen in the heart beat. I like CVS :)
Finished at one today which was brilliant, played frisbee in royal fort gardens, relished having nothing pressing to do and now I’m back at halls to tidy my room for the upcoming inspection and make brownies. It is sunny :D
Last night I went on a date (that phrase makes me feel old); it was so lovely I fear he may have had too much practice at this…
He arrived with flowers, I’m not even sure how he knew which ones I love. We went to this pizza place with wooden benches, little red flowers on the tables and no cutlery (eating with your hands is the best.) After dinner the waitress said, “Oh I’ll just bring your things down” and brought these little brown packages out. He retrieved a bag from somewhere, he must have dropped it there before picking me up and we walked down to “one of his favourite places in Bristol” - down by the water, near the harbour. There were two massive slices of cake in the packages and he produced blankets, hoodies and a flask of hot chocolate from his bag. I had a really, really great night :)
The best part was when the wind blew his rucksack, with his keys, into the water and he had to hook it with one of those life-saving ring things then climb down and get it out.
